Second Annual “Butterfly Kisses” Father-Daughter Dance

~ A Wonderful Evening had by All ~

On Saturday evening, the girls from Resurrection strolled up the school steps in the most beautiful dresses imaginable; many of them hand-in-hand with their dads, who were handsome beyond words. All decked out in suits and ties and boutonnieres that matched their daughters’ dresses. After being formally welcomed to the dance at the door they headed downstairs to the welcome table, had their portraits taken, enjoyed a delicious catered meal which was blessed by Father Howarth, and then headed for the dance floor. The gym was absolutely amazing….over 500 balloons in purple, blue, peach, and pink – each cluster topped with a huge shimmering butterfly; crisp white linens with bright purple napkins folded into the shape of shells; disco lights floated on the walls; and music filled the room that made everyone’s heart sing. Our Cinderella evening was just beginning! As the night progressed, the dads all rallied for a competitive game of “hot potato” for a $100 Home Depot gift certificate of which Chris was the ultimate winner (Congratulations, Chris! Sorry we didn’t catch your last name! But he sure was happy!). Dads were shaking hands with other dads and conversing about anything and everything. Girls were laughing and dancing and singing with their friends. And during the slow dances, all of the dads and daughters were up on the dance floor…a beautiful sight that would make any onlooker begin to tear…especially the fathers who had younger daughters who picked them up in their arms and swayed with them to the music.

At the end of the dance, all of the fathers generously pitched in to help with the clean up. They helped to move tables and chairs, boxes, and sodas. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful families at Resurrection. Even the photographers were raving about our dads and daughters again this year, saying how polite, well-mannered, and good-natured they all were!

But, I must say, that much of the heart and soul of our school, was found that evening in the moms who came together and gave of their time and energy to put together a beautiful and unforgettable evening. It is people like you who make our school what it is…a welcoming place where people know they can count on each other. Thank you, ladies, for all your help. I could not have done this without you. It takes a village.
